14.3 The significance of driving speed in difficult conditions
Situational speed
The driver has to be able to stop the vehicle on the road that is visible for him or her and in all foreseeable situations. Before switching from high beam to low beam the speed has to be adjusted to match the new visibility conditions. When driving 80 km/h the stopping distance on dry asphalt is 50 meters. On the same speed but on wet asphalt the stopping distance is 63 meters. On rainy conditions the speed has to be adjusted so that you don't unnecessarily splash water on other road users.
The correct situational speed requires responsible consideration from the driver.
