3.1 Drive preparations
Clothing
It is easier to use car controls, when you use clothing suitable for driving. Correct steering wheel handling is possible when you use relaxed upper body clothing. Low-based shoes make it easier to use the pedals.
External checks
When approaching the car check the following from the outside:
Distance front and back. Estimating distances from driver's seat is difficult.
See that tire pressures look ok in all the tires.
Note the direction of the front tires for driving off.
Loose objects
Before sitting in a driver's seat check that there are no loose objects, that could end under the pedals, on the floor.
Driving position
Check the driving position and if necessary adjust:
Seat height
Seat distance
Seat rake
Steering wheel height and depth
Head restraint height
Safety belt
Buckle the safety belt. Pull the safety belt upward to tighten the waist belt.
Mirrors
Adjust the side mirrors, so that you can see a little bit of the car sides. Adjust the rear-view mirror so that you can see well behind.
Monitoring devices
Start the engine and check the monitoring devices:
Fuel level
Red warning lights mean that you cannot start driving while they are on.
Orange/yellow warning lights don’t prevent driving, but they can have an effect on the safety and car mechanics.
