How fast can you interpret the prohibitions, warnings and instructions from the traffic signs in the picture? In unfamiliar traffic environment we are alert and make a lot of observations. We have only seconds to interpret traffic control devices; this means that it is important to learn them in the beginning of the course. The danger in familiar environment is that we drive with routine and are often not observant enough.

Traffic control is hierarchical. If the traffic control system messages are contradictory, we will obey the instructions and orders of the system that is higher in the hierarchy.

The order of traffic control systems:

1. Traffic controller (e.g. police)

2. Traffic lights

3. Traffic signs

4. Road markings

5. Rules
