Stopping and parking

A vehicle may only be stopped or parked on the right-hand side of a road. On a one-way road, stopping and parking is also permitted on the left-hand side. Within city limits, stopping and parking on the left-hand side of the road is also permitted on dual carriageways, provided this does not in endanger or cause any hindrance to traffic.

Vehicles must be stopped or parked parallel to the road and as close to the side of the road as possible. Vehicles may not be stopped or parked in a way that compromises safety or hinders other traffic.

Measures related to stopping a vehicle

Once a vehicle has been stopped or parked, the driver must ensure that the vehicle cannot move uncontrollably on its own. The vehicle door may not be opened or the vehicle entered, exited or loaded or unloaded, if this causes danger or disturbance to other traffic or the environment.

Leaving a vehicle on the road
