Elks. Midsummer and autumn are the most dangerous times. These animals are on the move especially around dawn and dusk and that is when most of the accidents occur:

  • after the sign reduce your speed, so you can stop quickly

  • use high-beam as much as possible

  • observe also the sides of the road, especially in places where there are trees and bushes near the road

  • if you notice something abnormal, brake immediately

  • slip behind the animal

liikennemerkki

liikennemerkki

The sign states "WIDE TRANSPORT"
When encountering a special transport vehicle reduce your speed if necessary and move to the right edge of the road.

Driving On a Gravel Road

A gravel road has significantly less traction than an asphalt road. Especially loose gravel can cause the driver to lose the control of the vehicle. When two vehicles pass at high speed the stones skipping can damage the vehicles.

When the ground frost melts in the spring it causes so called "weather break" (fin. kelirikko). At this time, it is advisable to avoid the road edges, because they can cave in and cause an accident. Decrease your speed adequately.
